October wrap-up and Competition Announcement!

So October has passed and we've seen some great socks on the blog so far, as well as some sad frogging stories and lots of great lists of challenges. And we've had almost 100 people sign up - weeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

One of the reasons we set up SSoS was to share the sock love with our knitting (and crocheting) friends who have yet to knit the humble sock or who have tried but don't yet have a lot of confidence with their sock knitting. So we've decided to have a little special giveaway as an extra incentive for sock newbies.

If you are a sock newbie, leave a comment with your name and blog or send us an email (with sock newbie in the subject line) - we don't want to set a hard and fast rule about what a sock newbie is, we think you know if you are a newbie or not - for me it only took one pair to hook me and after that I wouldn't have called myself a newbie, but for others it might take a few socks before you feel that level of comfort.

Entries close Thursday 8 November and the winner will be drawn randomly from all sock newbie entries on Friday 9 November!

I am a sock newbie. I made my first training baby sock at the insistence of Bells that it would be easy enough to learn dpns on (which I had a dreaded fear of). And I did it, and I was hooked. I've made one half of one pair so far, and now nearly finished one half of another pair. Yes I know the idea is to finish a full pair, but the thought of turning around and doing that same sock again I wasn't sure I could, so again Bells came to the rescue and suggested I try another pair then go back to the first. That's what I am doing. I'm loving sock making!!!!!!!!

I consider myself a newbie - I had two halves of a pair done, but they were revolting and didn't fit over my heel and I hated them so they are now frogged. Officially, my first pair at the grey ones I started on Oct 1. They fit, so Whoo!

Oh yeah, I'm a newbie. Just tonight I turned my first heel. Now I'm reading the mystery that is the "gusset instructions".

I am NOT a newbie but have been admiring all the socks here and especially some from newbies. Well done!

Oh yes, Newbie over here. Current sock count: 1. Second half of the pair on the needles, about halfway down the leg. I needed blow-by-blow instructions on the heel caper over the phone.

But I did cast on my second pair on the weekend - monkeys. Nothing like a lace pattern on dpns to remind you that you know NOTHIN' at all!!

Not sure if I'm a newbie or not (two and a half pairs of plain stockinette socks made, wanting to try a lace pattern next...), but I'm definately hooked!!!
Cheers all,

Most definitely a newbie here. Fixing to turn my first heel on my first sock and I don't mind admitting that I'm terrified/intimidated/scared witless! If you had a competition for the Most Scared Sock Knitter I would be a shoo in, absolutely without a doubt.
I'm off to try on my sock to see if it's heel turning time.....

I am knitting my second pair right now and I'm a little disappointed because they are too tight...just like the first pair I made, grr. Maybe my feet are just getting boofier? Really want to find the perfect number of stitches to cast on so I can then splurge on some really nice sock yarn.

I think I am a newbie. Two and a half socks knitted, but all of them pretty basic. Still don't think I've ever knitted gussets...still not sure what gussets are!! I hope that by the end of this KAL, I will no longer be a newbie.

Whoops - I meant two and a half pairs, not two and a half socks :-)
Not sure if that makes me a newbie, but I feel like one.

Hey I'm a newbie for sure - I have about 5cm of my first sock on the needles!!!!

Yep, another newbie signing up.

After some trauma I'm just up to the heel flap on my first "real" sock. DD#s puppy thought the purple cable on the Knit Picks circs was a toy...

Flashed off an email to Donni http://donyalestuff.wordpress.com/harmony-wood-needles, and I'm a happy knitter again.
