Time for an up-date

Hey there. Haven't been on here for quite a while. I was in the land of Aus over the holidays. See my blog for news of our travels.

Haven't been doing a lot of sock knitting either. Have made some progress on my Kaffe socks. I'm nearly at the toe of this one. Have been making it on double-points and finding it a bit frustrating after using circulars. Seem to be back to making ladders again. Think I might put these socks at the top of my list this week after I finish my current WIP (Cherie from Rowan's Vintage Knits).
Have also been working on the monkey socks. Have finished the heel even though it is a pain to do heels with flaps on one circular. I know I could do short-row heels much more easily but how well do they wear. Also I'm not sure how to convert from one to the other.
I think the Monkeys are looking gorgeous especially in that yarn, Fleece Artist Merino I think.

A pair of Monkey socks

I finally finished this pair of socks. I'd finished the knitting on Cup weekend but then they sat around for two weeks waiting for the grafting. My grafting and weaving in ends needs a bit of work I reckon. I'm never satisfied with either. But I am satisfied that these are done and finished with.

First finished pair!!

I'm so excited! I finally finished my first pair of socks!! I used the Silver Sock Class pattern which was an awesome way to start. Love how many pictures they had. The only thing that I found very difficult was the grafting of the toe. I got it by the end of the second sock but it still doesn't look very neat.

These socks are *itchy*. Really, really *itchy*. I'll soak them in some wool wash and see what happens. Right now I couldn't even bear to put them on for the photos!


I'm so excited about knitting socks that I've started my next pair! The crazy thing is that I'm in the middle of exams and really should be concentrating on them. Ah well. :) I'm making up some Monkey socks with some old Sirdar Wonderland from my Granny's stash.

Half a Monkey?

Is this half a Monkey or half of a pair of Monkeys? Who knows? Who cares! :o)

A Whole Sock!

Here's my first whole sock, a Monkey. Note that the little ball of wool to the side is all that remains of the first 50g/160m skein of Koigu. I was getting rather worried about making it to the toe and I'd already left out one pattern repeat on the leg for this very reason. For the record, my feet are size 9.

Now onto the other sock.

Here's half a sock!

I started this pair of socks on 11 October which was the same day that I joined Southern Summer of Socks. I'm using Koigu KPPPM. I love the springiness and stretchiness of it. It's another Monkey sock. I've previously knitted another pair of these using a rather unstretchy yarn which I was not too impressed with but felt that the Monkeys deserved another go as I liked the pattern. I'm finding that the Koigu is wonderful to knit with but I am finding myself wondering whether or not I have enough yarn to finish the sock. Time will tell on that one. Has anyone had any previous problems with not enough Koigu for a sock?

I'm cheating a little bit - these are the Monkey socks I've been working on for a little while now. I finished the first one on Friday and started the second one this afternoon (during a Press Gang DVD marathon). This pattern is great to knit. I can't wait until they are finished!
