Getting into the spirit of things, I'd say I have four or five more pairs of socks now than this time last year, and maybe twice as much yarn - which means my output is slightly more than my input (unless you actually count the balls of yarn in and out, in which case I might go hide for a while) - so the Stash Flash is here:

Finally!

After almost two months of lurking and knitting, I finally have something to share!

I had been avoiding socks for a little while. In fact, I think I experience what could be called a sock block. I had committed myself to finishing a pair of socks that I really wasn't enjoying before I could knit any other socks. Only problem was, I kept avoiding working on the socks I didn't like. Luckily, the looming Christmas deadline gave me the incentive to throw my stupid sock commitment out and start on things I really liked. Also, I had to admit that continuing to force myself to knit something I hated was a little ridiculous.



So behold, here are the unblocked "Embossed Leaves" socks my mom is getting for Christmas. I still have yet to sew up the toe and weave in the ends, but I'm saving all my finishing for one day two weeks from now, when I get it all out of the way at once.


I'm not sure how these are going to block, or whether they're even going to respond to blocking at all. They're made from Crystal Palace's Maizy, a yarn made from corn fiber, which (I think) doesn't really have a memory, kind of like cotton or other non-animal fibers.


The pattern was awesome to work with, and the yarn was great with only one drawback-- some of the dye ran off and my knitting needles are now pink. So these will be getting a thorough washing before being gifted. I'd hate for my mom to get pink feet!

I'm Bringin' Soxy Back!!!

My Mum's The Word sock #1 is going along nicely on the foot. I like symmetry so I arranged the stitches so there were 3 garter stitches at the end of Needle 3, and 3 at the start of Needle 1. This means I have a 'jog' in my garter stitch (Not the kind of jog you do at footy!!) I continued the 6 garter stitches down the heel, and then wondered if I should unravel and 'fix' the jog. I decided I wouldn't, but when I write up the pattern, I will put all the 6 stitches on one needle!!

I have started The Rainbow Socks from Magknits: The Connection Socks. I am using some beautiful ChocMint 4ply from The Knittery. It is a mixture of the Chocolate and Forest colours that Daphne made into a striped ball!!! I am not really a short row knitter, so I am not exactly sure if I am following the directions properly. I wrote out my approximation of what to do, it looks OK, so I am just brazening it out!!! I still have the short row heel to face... :-(
I think I will start one more pair of socks and then I am all set up with a sock for every occasion!!!

Socks, Drugs and Rock'n'Roll

Well 2 out of 3 ain't bad!!! Well, I want to buy Ben Lee's new record, so you can guess the two!!!

I have finished The Mauritius Socks. I did start them early, but I stopped knitting for a few days to even things up. They're in Lion Brand 5ply, 64 stitches on 2.75mm. For a friend.

I have now started new socks for my mum, The Word. They also have 64/66 stitches on 2.75mm and I have used the Diagonal Fern from Barbara Walker with extra garter stitches in between the three panels. I will continue the front panel down the sock. I've made a chart and I might reverse it for the other sock. It is Blues Cashmere Merino from The Knittery.

I'm about to start the shortrow socks from MagKnits. I have yet to name them but I will be using, maybe, Opal Caterpillar, though perhaps my Knittery ChocMint would be better as it is stripier???

I am looking forward to knitting a lot of socks. I have no other goals other than that. I am goal-less, I am The Port Power of The KAL. This will be my first and only footy reference!!!

Ice Cream

A start on my first SSS sock! Pattern - Double Eyelet Rib Socks, free from Wendy Knits. These are intended for a good friend in Scotland for Christmas and I'm hoping that she'll love the brown/pink/cream colourway. I've only completed one repeat of the pattern as I'm waiting for some different needles. The Brittany birch DPNs don't really like K2tog or Ssk so I need needles with a sharper, finer point to continue.

Socker Goals!

Or, as they used to say on Laugh In, "sock it to me, sock it to me"!

I have only two balls of sock yarn in my stash; but that's okay - I have knitted seven pair of socks from 8ply for charity in the last few months!

My first goal is to knit a pair of toe-up socks for me. Pattern? Probably my usual basic pattern from Lynne Vogel's The Twisted Sister Sock Workbook.

After that, I'm not sure, but I want to try some Cascade Fixation (stretch cotton). I'm also on a lace kick at the moment; lace socks perhaps? Maybe I'll try Lacy or Fancy Feet. Anyone know any other good lace sock patterns?
