getting there

Hiya ladies. It's almost like i'm living here again, isn't it?
Finished another pair of socks that was for the longest time a lonely single (since 2006, i believe). These are knit from my own handspun, navajo plied to keep the colours segregated and intense. I used 3mm needles, 56 sts and an afterthought heel. easy-peasy, but delayed because i spun half the fibre and knit the first sock... and then got over it big time before i had even spun the fibre for the second sock. typical. One looks a little longer, but that's because it's been blocked and the other one hasn't. They are both soaking now and should even out.
Anyway, I need to have a rifle but i think that leaves me with one more lonely sock to make a friend for.. and then i've completed one of my SSS goals ^_^
as for the one about writing up my patterns... does anyone know if there's an easy way to make a pdf file downloadable from my blog? or do i have to write them up as posts?
Peace out,
Ms Spider xo

PS hey, empressoftheknit! Look here for an idea of something else you can do with sock yarn (would also look fab with a plain colour against a self-striping: nowhere near as hard as it looks, promise :) The pattern is here

back on track.. maybe?

After doing a good deal of other knitting over the SSS, i have finally turned around and gotten back to one of my goals: namely, finishing up unfinished pairs.
So, add one ankle sock to my tally (is that a 1/2?).

late recovery?

Finished my two christmas pairs.
Finished these (for the boyfriend) yesterday:Opal Rainforest (first series) in Doktorfisch, Slipped-stitch Rib from Sensational Knitted Socks.
And these (for friend L) today:Interweave Web Sock pattern in Lincraft Hot Socks.
And i can still remember a time when the idea of getting self-striping identical twin socks seemed tricky...
still got my thumb in the pie ;)
Happy new year

the flood dries up

i suspect everyone will be a little relieved to hear this, but i give up. On the sullivan's sock yarn pomatomas anyway. I got guage, it looks nice... it's not the most enjoyable thing i've ever knit but it isnt boring...

the yarn is hideous. i can say it. full of guard hairs, scratchy, stiff and then there's the colour bleeding onto my finger tips. ew.

so yes, it shall be frogged. i think i will skein the yarn and then give it a good wash to see if that makes it a little softer. after that? i give up.

And you know what? i dye my own sock yarn, what the hell am i doing buying a cheap commercial immitation of what i can do for myself?? nuts, totally nuts i am.

Also, i have a question. If we knit half a sock and then end up frogging it, does it count towards our total? or if we count it in the first place do we then have to add a -sock to the week in which we frog it? because i tend to count my socks by halves as that seems to be their natural breathing space...

mild annoyance

In case anyone was wanted a review of the sullivan's sock yarn (about $13 for 120g at lincraft) it's ok.. pretty hairy but nice colours. sadly these colours will rub off on your hand.
still pretty though.

whatever gets you through

And again.. but i only had to do from the second heel flap so it isn't THAT ridiculous.

PS. excuse the icky flash... it's late and it's the best i can do.

and again.

So yesterday i made this:
how fast is Opal 6-ply! Holy mother! it's the Chameleon colourway for my monkey.. and even with proper long legs and the full requirement of rib (a sign of deep love as i hate ribbing.. well knitting it. love wearing it.) it took a day. it was a sunday, but it wasnt the only thing i did all day so i'm pretty darn pleased with it!
So that brings my week two total to 2.5
Running total: 6.5

You can't stop progress :D

The arrival of my sock set of knit picks has led to the completion of my first crosshatch lace sock (from More Senstational Knitted Socks) in the Knittery's wool/cashmere sock yarn...
soooo fuzzy... mmmmmm

hey look, a distraction!

Well.. i finished these last night. I started them last September as a sample of my pink grapefruit sock yarn and just never got around to doing the second one. i was halfway down the leg of the second one and finished it off yesterday.. which was odd. I've tried finishing it before and i kept hitting that black hole effect where you knit and knit and nothing seems to change, EVER. so maybe it just caught up with me.
I did, however, have a lot of bus knitting time yesterday. Stupid Uni.

But yes, another pair down, i think these will be a birthday gift for my housemate's birthday. I am a crazy person, aren't i? think that will do me for a while though..

i may have a bit of a problem

I'm feeling a little guilty about posting these since i have apparently been responsible for some performance anxiety.. Can i just say, on the record, that i am a very sporadic knitter and soon my fixation will shift and it'll take me a more sane amount of time to finish a pair of socks. and i'm immensly thrilled by anyone who knits, let alone knits socks. there is no judgement from me, i promise. if anything.. i think maybe i'm a bit nuts.
anyway. I started these back in August and they got put on hold because i have a boyfriend with big feet and a sad smile... so yes. I finally finished these puppies.. but it only counts as one sock since SSS started.. promise. And i still have to get off my butt and write up the pattern. Anyway, it's the Peacock Sock in Happy Spider Sock Yarn (colourway is also Peacock). I'll blog again when i have a better lit pic.. and a pattern to share, ok?
i lurve them :)
