raspberry ripple or sorority sister socks

A really quick knit and I'm glad of that. I'm not a pink person, although I do like rich purples, but these are for my second granddaughter, not long five, who loves any colour "so long as it's pink." I thought the picot edge would suit her, nice and girly, although it's a bit hard to see in the photo. I was heartily tired of looking at pink by the time I had finished.

I wasn't planning on making them identical when I started, but the thin dark stripe stood out so strongly, i felt they needed to match. They are made from Heirloom Jigsaw. I'v often used Heirloom Argyle and like it, although there's not much of a colour range. I'm not sure whether I would buy this again. I would need to really like the colour to be swayed enough to get it, I think.

Look at the pattern within the bright pink stripes. It's different in practically every stripe. There are two stitches more on the leg than the foot. I presume that's what has influenced the placement of the white accents. I cut out two stitches on the foot as her foot is long and narrow. However, the feet are supposed to be identical, just two stitches fewer than the leg. The accents now stripe at an angle, but it's not the same angle in each stripe, even allowing for the mirror reversal in the placement of the socks to be photographed.

These make the fourth pair of children's socks in this knitalong. I have five grandchildren, but as one had two pairs made for him, I still need to do another two pairs. These will be part of her Christmas present.

Ta-da! second sock of many colours done and dusted. Well ends woven in etc. I had waiting time yesterday so made use of it. On the station, on the train and some considerable time at the hearing aid place getting one of my hearing aids attended to.

I've just woven in the ends. I waited till morning as last night I could not see to thread the needle. So not only hearing aids but perhaps glasses need attending to as well? The joys of physical aging!

These were a quick little unintended knit. I'll just add them to Finn's Christmas pile. Now I'll have to think about his cousins again. Made one pair a few weeks ago for the youngest cousin but there are two others. Can't have the DILs being jealous, can I? And there is his big sister too who has chubby feet even though she's only seven. I called in at Tapestry Craft yesterday after I could hear again, and bought some pink Jigsaw. I already have some pink Opal upstairs, so will need to get going on little girly socks.

joseph's finn's sock of many colours

After a great deal of muttering and moaning as detailed on my blog here, with several different needles and patterns and some 8 ply wool, I made myself feel better by using up some odds and ends of wool. I wasn't planning another child's sock, I really wanted one for me, but this is what I did at the weekend. The thin blue stripe and the green foot are Wildfoote, the others are from Elann.

I felt very virtuous using up the little bits and pieces which have been hanging around for a while. Still have a way to go to finish the pumpkin colour. When I ordered a lot of wool from Elann several years ago, I chose that as a co-ordinating colour for several others. i still have possibly three or four balls of it left. I'll be careful about doing something like that again.

1.5 finished objects

One finished sock for probably the present basket and one pair for the youngest grandchild. He's not long turned two, but already has a bigger foot than his three year old cousin. I've made this pair very big, but he'll grow. They are intended for next winter, so hopefully they will still fit then. I've now quite an accumulation of browns, bones etc and some green as well. I can see a stripey pair for little Finn on the list of projects. A good way to use up what I have. Only one problem, weaving in ends. YUK!

The other single sock is called "Ashes" and I found the pattern in the list at Knitting Pattern Central. It's a ridiculously easy pattern to do and the fabric pulls in nicely to be snug but will easily stretch to a much larger size. In fact, the rib pulls in so snugly that the rest of the foot looks enormous after it. I cast on for the second sock today and am about a quarter of the way down the leg.
