more celery, anyone?

I'll have to come back and edit this. Blogger just won't take a picture. I've now made two pairs of the celery coloured socks from the Bendigo wool. you can see how much was left. It's not a lot, but the leftover ball still feels firmish.

The pattern on the socks is a double repeat of a vertical zigzag, then a stretch of stocking stitch then more zigzag. I think that if I did the zigzag again, I might add a couple of purls either side. The arrowhead is actually not easy to see.

The candles are my take on an Advent wreath. A candle is lit each week of the season of Advent before Christmas. The larger white one is lit on the last Sunday with all the others. It stands for Christ. I find the old traditions interesting and I like the link to those who have gone before. Another reason why I also like old needles and vintage patterns.

hot off the needles

These are my celery socks, so-called because not only is that the name of the Bendigo wool, but it really is, IRL, the colour of a stalk of celery. This is 5 ply and feels a firm fabric. Pattern is just a simple stem pattern with knit 2 together and an SSK in reverse positions to the normally expected so the leaf faces out a bit. Six stitches and four rows, very easy. As can be seen in the photo, there is still quite a bit of wool left in the big ball.

They've taken me a while to finish. I ripped out an almost completed raspberry swirl ice-cream sock and am about to start another pattern with that. Then I was away for about a week on a much needed break. Technically, I was cat and house sitting for #1 son, but I didn't spend much time sitting around knitting. Took out some tension and aggression trimming some rampant wisteria in the garden he and DIL have just taken over.

Colour in photo is reasonably correct. The light was not good here, evn though it's the middle of the day. It was raining while I took this.

Present basket or will I keep them for me? Present basket has no socks in at the moment and not much else either. I've given away several pairs in the last couple of weeks as Christmas presents, sent early to UK. I'll have to think about that one. It's not a colour I usually wear, but it's good to experiment with colours and socks are a small start.
